A shopping trip to London proved a surprise life opportunity for teenager Georgie Day who has been named the new Face of Colgate.

The former Culford student from Westley was selected from 4,000 entrants as part of the Elite Model Look UK competition.

She was scouted during a shopping trip in Oxford Street with her dad and sister and had popped out from a café to speak to a friend on her mobile when a woman approached her,

She said: “Ithought she was trying to sell me something but she said ‘I’m trying to scout you’ so I just hung up on whoever I was talking to.”

Georgie, 18, has been enjoying a photo shoot for the Colgate Max White One Optic promotion and her face will be appearing in magazines by the end of the year.

She and her family moved back to the UK from South Africa two years ago to be nearer family and enable Georgie to take her A levels.

She said: “I still can’t quite take it in. I don’t think this has hit home yet.

“It’s not something I’d always dreamed of but having tried it out I really. really enjoy it. I don’t have big aspirations or plans. I’m just going to enjoy the moment.”

Georgie is aiming to go to university next year and is hoping to get into Exeter to study human bio sciences.

She said: “I’ve always liked the idea of a career involving people, getting out there travelling and I’ve always been interested in human biology.”
