AN ICKLINGHAM couple celebrated 60 years of marriage with a nostalgic train ride through the beautiful Yorkshire moors.
Les and Esther Cooke were introduced by Les’ sister while he was on leave from the Navy.
They were engaged in 1950 and married in Icklingham, the village which remained their home for their entire married life, two years later.
Les said: “We have been very happy together, we never row but often argue and we never throw things at each other.
The couple, who have three sons, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, travelled to Yorkshire last weekend with their family to celebrate their anniversary.
Les said: “They were four wonderful days – four of the best days of my life.
“We enjoyed it thoroughly. We went on a steam railway across the moors which was very enjoyable, it was beautiful countryside.”
The couple’s children also arranged for a congratulatory telegram from the Queen to arrive on their anniversary, yesterday.
