A gas leak has forced the closure of a main road between Stowmarket and Needham Market.

Gas distribution company Cadent has attributed to the leak to damage caused by contractors carrying out gas mains work on the B1113 Stowmarket Road at Badley yesterday.

A spokesman for the company said its engineers had worked throughout the night to try and fix the problem and would do all they could to resolve it as quickly as possible.

He said: “Yesterday contractors were carrying out work to the local gas mains network and a gas main was damaged.

“Our engineers arrived on site shortly afterwards and have been working since then to resolve the situation.

“As a result of the incident, Stowmarket Road (B1113) is currently closed between Needham Market and Badley with signed diversions in place.

“Our engineers have worked through the night and will continue to do all they can to resolve the incident as soon as possible.”

It is not yet known how long the repairs will take.
