FACE painting that was part of the Marlows DIY and garden store’s 30th anniversary event was supposed to be for children, but it was just as popular with staff.
By the end of the first day of thw weekend’s two-day celebration, several staff were sporting painted faces having joined in the fun.
On Sunday, gardening author and TV presenter Bob Flowerdew did a question and answer session with enthusiastic customers.
Manager Nick Ellis said the event, which also included 30 per cent off deals across the store, was held about 10 days after the actual anniversary so it was more convenient for customers stocking up for Easter gardening projects.
Nick has seen the store develop having joined the independent company the year before the garden and DIY centre opened.
“I started on the building side and transferred across in ’83or ’84,” he said. “Where the store is now, used to be the trade centre and an agricultural bit.
“They moved the trade centre to another building then opened the gardening and DIY centre.”
As well as plants, tools and supplies for the garden and DIY items, Marlows has grown to sell homeware, lighting, garden furniture, pets and pet supplies.
