CULTURES and friendships have blossomed over the years between two European towns and last weekend 30 years of town twinning was celebrated in Bury St Edmunds.

Some 59 visitors from Kevelaer, in Germany, were greeted at a reception held at The Athenaeum and gifts exchanged. Wine was given to the Bury members by Bernd Pool, chairman of the Kevelaer Friends of Bury St Edmunds, and deputy Mayor of St Edmundsbury Terry Buckle presented a miniature clock to the Bergermeister Dr Axel Stibi. A painting was also presented to the borough from the German town by Mr Stibi.
