Getting traffic to your website is something that takes dedication and time. The things that worked last year still work, but you’re going to have to do more of them.

There is more competition than ever before, and with the improvement in search engine algorithms you’ll need to provide more value than ever before to your audience.

Publish More Relevant Content

Content has always been king, and nothing has changed. You need to blog regularly, and work on providing content in other ways, too - such as relevant article directories, guest blog posts, eBooks, and more. The more relevant and unique content you can dish up to your audience, the better. Studies show over a 90 percent increase in traffic for websites that have blogs with new content at least 20 days out of the month.

Participate More on Social Media

Your audience has caught on to automation and they don’t like it. It’s important that you participate in social media by engaging your audience more. Speak directly to them via social media networks, and leave the sales pitch for your sales pages on your website. If you’ve noticed the “likes” and the engagement going down on your social media networks, it’s your fault. Get involved and you’ll see it improve.

Join More Groups and Forums

Ok, don’t just join. Get involved. Your intelligent comments on groups, forums (and even blog post discussions) will get you more traffic. Don’t just say “good post” or something like that; say something that is relevant to what the discussion was about. Put your expert hat on and truly participate in groups and forums to the best of your ability.

Improve Your Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

There are a lot of aspects of SEO that most websites don’t have. If you improve your SEO using Google Webmaster Tools and Guidelines, you’ll drastically improve the traffic to your website. Google tells you exactly what to do and if you do it or as much as you can, you’ll get more traffic than the others who aren’t doing even 30 percent of what they should. You might need some help but be careful who you use. I find it quite shocking that many websites I review have been built without any thought to SEO at all.

An area that Google, in particular, looks at is the speed your site loads at – the quicker the better. One of the ways to improve this is to optimise the images on your site and there are some great tools around to help you do this.

Become an Expert in Your Niche

You probably already want to do this and today there are many ways you can become an expert. You can get published - either via Kindle, or on one of the expert tutorial sites like eHow.com, or Geekpedia.com. You can create a course on one of the course websites, like Udemy.com. You can post your presentations for free viewing on YouTube or Slideshare.net. The more places you put your content in a professional way, the more you’ll be viewed as an expert and the more traffic you’ll bring to your website.

A combination of these activities will bring you more traffic to your website. Don’t just stop at one of these ideas. Incorporating as many of them as possible will significantly increase your current traffic.

A word of warning though – make sure it’s clear what you want them to do when they get there.


Facebook Rolls Out New Features for Slideshow Ads on Facebook and Instagram: Facebook introduced new features to the slideshow ad product that are “related to audio and text functionality, mobile creation and closer integration with [Facebook’s] Stock Photo and Pages Image libraries.”

Facebook Launches New Teen-Focused Stand-alone App, Lifestage: Facebook released Lifestage, a new stand-alone iOS app targeted to teens in high school. TechCrunch reports that Lifestage “mimics the way Facebook was originally launched” by being entirely centred around the social life at schools.

Facebook Confirms New Look and Layout for Pages: Facebook has “updated your Page’s design on desktop to make it easier for your visitors to interact with you and your Page.” These changes include an updated layout with “a cleaner design,” more prominent button placements that “drive the actions that matter to you” and improved navigation tools that “make it quick and easy for people to find important information about your business.” Facebook confirms that these changes have rolled out to all Facebook pages.

Twitter Released a Direct Message Button for Websites: Twitter introduced a new Message button that “lets your website visitors Direct Message you with a single click.”

Twitter Introduces Promoted #Stickers: Twitter rolled out Promoted #Stickers, “a huge opportunity for brands to drive brand affinity and raise awareness of their message at scale.”

LinkedIn Adds New Content Search Features to the Mobile App: LinkedIn rolled out three “new content search features on the LinkedIn mobile app.”

LinkedIn Started Rolling Out Conversion Tracking to Select Users: LinkedIn is slowly rolling out conversion tracking “to select advertisers, with the hope of 100% rollout by the end of August.”

Pinterest Introduces Promoted Video: Pinterest rolled out Promoted Video, a new way for businesses to “share their ideas with the people who are looking for them and make it easy for them to give these ideas a try.”

Instagram Business Profile Rollout in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia: Wired Magazine reports that the new Business Profiles on Instagram and other business tools “are finally starting to roll out in certain regions – mainly Europe, the Middle East and Asia.”

Blab Shuts Down Live-streaming Platform: Last week, the team behind Blab announced that it is “shutting down the website and app, and focusing 100% on our new project.”

YouTube Releases New TV App: TechCrunch reports that the newly revamped YouTube TV app “will feature a different look and improved organization of categories, in order to better fit in with how people watch YouTube in the living room.”

WhatsApp Explores Ways to Connect Users With Businesses: In a recent update to the WhatsApp terms and privacy policy, the company announced plans to “explore ways for you and businesses to communicate with each other using WhatsApp, such as through order, transaction, and appointment information, delivery and shipping notifications, product and service updates and marketing… [over] the next several months.”
