Free school charity rapped over leaflet

A charity behind a bid to set up a Free School in Ixworth has been rapped by watchdogs over ‘misleading’ advertising for one of its other schools.

The Seckford Foundation has been told by the Advertising Standards Authority to change a leaflet promoting Beccles Free School.

The document claimed the headteacher was a ‘former director of learning for Cambridgeshire’, which the agency said was ‘exaggerated and misleading’. A claim that the school passed its Ofsted pre-opening inspection ‘with flying colours’ also ‘exaggerated the nature of the pre-registration inspection and its judging criteria’.

A spokesman for the Seckford Foundation said they will ‘make the necessary changes’ to their literature.
