Free Christmas parking in Bury St Edmunds

The ‘free from three’ parking period on Tuesdays in Bury St Edmunds is being given a seasonal extension, to allow Christmas shoppers to make the most of the town.

From November 21 to December 19, ALL car parks will be free after 3pm on Thursdays.

The ‘free from three’ on Tuesdays will continue to apply to the short stay car parks only.

Cllr Alaric Pugh, St Edmundsbury Borough Council cabinet member for economy, said: “Festive trade is crucial to our town centres and I am very pleased that we can support this with free parking from 3pm on Thursdays in the lead up to Christmas, as well as the regular Tuesdays.”

November 21 will see the start of late night shopping on Thursdays and the switch on of the Bury Christmas lights, organised by ourburystedmunds. Visit

November 28 will see the renowned Bury Christmas Fayre kick off with ‘Community Thursday’, an evening of events for Bury’s residents. Visit

On November 29 and 30, and December 1, a brand new 1,000 space seasonal park and ride will operate from Saxham Business Park.

Extra park and walk spaces will be available on November 30 and December 1 at Olding Road and West Suffolk College, both signposted off Newmarket Road.
