Former teacher and school band leader accused of sexual assault

A former Stowmarket teacher and school band leader has appeared before a judge accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Derek Cable, 73, formerly of Edgecombe Road, Stowmarket, and now living at Robertson Terrace, Hastings, is charged with three offences.

He is alleged to have sexually assaulted a boy aged under 14 at a school on three occasions between January 1975 and May 1976 during private tuition sessions.

At Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday, Cable spoke only to confirm his name.

He is due to to reappear at the same court on April 25 for a plea and case management hearing.

He was granted bail.
