A former Stowmarket teacher and school band leader has appeared in court to deny sexually assaulting a boy.

Derek Cable, 73, formerly of Edgecombe Road, Stowmarket and now living at Robertson Terrace, Hastings, is charged with three offences.

Cable is alleged to have sexually assaulted a boy aged under 13 at a school on three occasions between January 1975 and May 1976.

Today at Ipswich Crown Court, Cable pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

Judge David Goodin said Cable’s trial, expected to last for up to four days, will begin on August 4.

Cable will continue to be granted unconditional bail until his next court appearance, said Judge Goodin.
