Tributes paid to former Stowmarket mayor Anne Whybrow
Tribute has been paid to a former Stowmarket mayor who described the town as the 'centre of the universe'.
Anne Whybrow, who was elected as Mayor of Stowmarket in 2012 and stepped down as a town councillor in 2015, died yesterday.
Representing the council, Cllr Nick Gowrely said Anne was a 'valued member' of the town council during her long time there.
"She was a very respected councillor. She had Stowmarket in her blood and always had her constituents and town at heart," he said.
"It's a real loss and our thoughts are with her husband David and the family. She'll be sadly missed."
Anne also served on Suffolk County Council, representing the Stowmarket South division from 2006 until 2013. She was re-elected in 2017 to represent Bosmere.
Councillor Matthew Hicks, leader of the county council, said: “She was held in high esteem and was testament to what a good councillor should be.
“Anne always showed much courage, strength and determination and will be greatly missed.
“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time.”
