Tributes have been paid to a former chairman of Forest Heath District Council who died on Wednesday.

Cllr David Bimson who represented the Brandon West ward had stepped down from the Mildenhall-based authority earlier this month due to ill health.

“David was a good, hard working, well liked man and councillor,” said council leader , Cllr James Waters.

“He had served as our chairman this year up until his resignation on February 3. He was first elected to Forest Heath in 2011, and re-elected in May last year and had been very active representing not just the people of the Brandon West ward who elected him, but the whole of the district, as a member of our development control, licensing, overview and scrutiny and performance and audit scrutiny committees.

“We have all lost a friend. He will be sorely missed and our sympathies are with his family.”
