Force is strong with new Bury Star Wars club as it prepares for town’s sci-fi exhibition
A new Bury St Edmunds Star Wars club will welcome a roster of actors from the film franchise at the town’s biggest-ever sc-fi exhibition.
The Norwich Star Wars Club - Suffolk Division - will open the event at Moyse’s Hall Museum, in Bury, on Saturday, October 24, which has this year lined up more guest stars, props, replicas and costumed characters from a range of sci-fi classics and action genre movies.
Jaston Buxton, one of the country’s top Star Wars collectors, was so inspired when more than 3,500 sc-fi fans visited last year’s exhibition, he felt the time was right to found a Suffolk branch of the Norwich club.
The club, which meets at Moreton Hall Youth Club, will open the newly named Sci-fi & Action Exhibition after marching through the town in costume.
Mr Buxton, 45, of Bury, who has been collecting Star Wars memorabilia for nearly 30 years, said: “Last year, David Prowse (Darth Vader) said Moyse’s sci-fi event is one of the best he has ever attended and having been to hundreds of conventions all over the world myself, I have to agree.”
His wife Maria, 37, and children Ajay, 14, and Lucas, 12, who is named after Star Wars creator George Lucas will also be dressing up for the event.
At the exhibition, they will welcome Star Wars actors Paul Blake (Greedo), Michael Carter (Bib Fortuna) and original Stormtrooper Chris Bunn on whom the first Stormtrooper costume was based.
There will also be appearances by Martin Ballantyne (The Dark Knight) and Madeleine Smith (the first Roger Moore-era Bond Girl).
Anyone interested in joining the club can search Norwich Star Wars Club - Suffolk Division on Facebook.
The exhibition at Moyse’s Hall is from October 24 to November 15.
