A GROUP of air cadets from Thurston had an uplifting start to their summer holidays when they took a flight in a Sea King helicopter.

Thirteen cadets from 863 (Thurston) Squadron Air Training Corps took part in the experience, which involved a 20 minute flight from Wattisham Airfield, where the RAF Search and Rescue helicopter is based.

They flew across and over Thurston where they train at the sea cadet headquarters at Thurston Community College and then back to the airfield.

The RAF’s Sea Kings provide 24 hour cover across the UK and the Falkland Islands throughout the year.

The Air Training Corps is a voluntary youth organisation, open to young men and women aged between 13 and 21.
