Residents received a shock awakening today after a burst water main in Ixworth caused their homes to flood.
Thanomsri Nayler, of Peddars Close, said she ‘heard a loud bang and felt the ground shaking’ shortly before 6.30am.
She looked out her bungalow window and rushed out to warn neighbours about the rising water level.
Nicola Barwick said: “I couldn’t get the water to stop. I could see it gushing and I panicked.”
The 30-year-old, who estimates damage to her home of around £3,000, said she was unable to reach Anglia Water on its emergency line.
Emily Roberts said: “I had to use curtains and my duvet to stop it coming through my door because towels weren’t doing anything.”
Emma Staples from Anglian Water said there were engineers on site by around 8am to stop the flow of water and begin repairs.
“We are very sorry for the damage caused to customers’ homes,” she said.
“We know how distressing flooding can be and it is our priority to put things back to normal for all customers affected as quickly as possible,” she added.
