Flood alert issued for properties in Stowmarket and Needham Market

A flood alert, meaning flooding is possible, has been issued by the Environment Agency for properties near the Rattlesden River and River Gipping through and including Stowmarket and Needham Market.

The EA said: “Following last night’s and this morning’s rainfall, rivers have begun to rise. River levels are expected to rise slowly over the next 12 hours, and are then expected to fall.

“The peak of the river is now near Rattlesden. River levels are likely to continue to rise slowly, especially in the areas of Stowmarket.

“Over the next 24 hours the forecast is for light rain. We will continue to monitor levels closely and update this message as necessary.”
