A science-fiction fan from Bury St Edmunds has had his first book published by an independent London-based firm.

Shop assistant Daniel Thompson, of Horringer Court, Bury, spent around five years working on his book called This Chained City.

The 30-year-old, who studied film at Staffordshire University, said: “I had intended to go into film-making but there are limited opportunities in this area so I revisited an old ambition to be a writer.”

In the book, Mr Thompson builds a possible future world for polluted planets and the population at large by combining science fiction writing with elements of crime fiction and murder mystery.

This Chained City has been published by Austin & Macauley Publishers Ltd and is available to order at

On realising his dream, Mr Thompson said: “I was and still am in shock. It seems very unreal at the moment.”
