Firefighters have been tackling a fire early this morning (2) at a scrap yard in Red Lodge.

Crews from Mildenhall and Newmarket, and a water carrier from Newmarket, were called to Scrapco at The Carrops, shortly after 4.15am.

The fire involved ten cars close to fuel storage tanks.

Firefighters used water jets to cool the fuel tanks and requested additional help with crews sent from Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, as well as a command unit and support pump from Ixworth.

They managed to contain the fire to an industrial skip and used breathing apparatus and hose reels to get to the fire. An on-site crane was also used to remove vehicles from the skip.

Suffolk fire service had the incident under control by 6:37am stating that the skip had been emptied and was being dampened down.
