Firefighters called to incident at Bury St Edmunds arc shopping centre




Firefighters were called to an incident at the arc shopping centre in Bury St Edmunds at around 4pm yesterday(January 14).

They were alerted to smoke coming up through the pavement area outside Stormfront.

A spokeswoman said it appeared to be an electrical fault and, although there was no fire, a crew is on standby at the scene.

UK Power Networks investigated the cause and both crews were stood down just after 6pm.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: "Engineers worked quickly and safely to investigate and repair a fault with a piece of electrical equipment in Auction Street, Bury St Edmunds yesterday evening.

"Power was interrupted to two customers, one of which was restored overnight.

"We are awaiting access to restore the final customer.

"The work is complete so the pavement area will be reinstated as soon as possible.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
