An elderly man was inside a Lavenham bungalow when a fire broke out there earlier today.

Four fire engines and a turn table ladder from Colchester were sent to the mid-terrace property in Tenter Piece, off Church Street, at around 11.15am.

A spokesman for the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the property was ‘well alight’ when crews arrived.

The fire is thought to have started in the bungalow’s kitchen and spread to three adjoining rooms.

It also spread to a common roof space, affecting some neighbouring properties.

An elderly man, who was inside the bungalow at the time, was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and taken to West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

Crews pulled roof tiles off the property to tackle the fire and continued dampening down this afternoon.
