Firefighters tackle blaze at shop and flats in St Andrews St North, Bury St Edmunds

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a shop and flats in Bury St Edmunds town centre this morning.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue were called to the scene shortly before 6am to reports of a fire at a shop and two upstairs flats, in St Andrew's Street North.

Five fire engines attended the incident and main jets were used to extinguish the blaze.

It is thought to have started in the kitchen of the first floor flat and spread to the second floor.

All crews had left the scene by 8.40am.

Suffolk Police and ambulance crews were also in attendance.

Police have tweeted that all residents are accounted for and that one is being treated for smoke inhalation.

The road was closed while the incident was dealt with.
