Fencing could be installed on the football pitch at Oakes Road, in Bury St Edmunds, if funding is agreed later this month.

Ward councillors have already offered to contribute from their locality budgets and the St Edmundsbury parks team is due to meet with representatives from the Football Association this month, who have indicated they may be in a position to offer ‘some grant funding’.

A spokeswoman for St Edmundsbury Borough Council said: “Detailed specifications for the work, along with cost estimates, will be prepared once the scope of the project and the funding available is agreed.”
