Family tradition is rekindled with baptism at church on Ickworth estate
A family tradition was rekindled after nearly four decades when the son of Isabella De Pauw (formerly Hervey) was baptised at St Mary’s Church, on the Ickworth estate on March 19.
Victor Michael Maurice De Pauw is the first in the Hervey dynasty in about 39 years to be christened at the church.
The last was Lady Victoria Hervey - eldest sister of Lord Bristol, who led the renovation of the church after it was made redundant in 1984.
John Porter, church co-ordinator and fund-raiser, said Isabella and husband Christophe live in Belgium and felt it was a ‘huge compliment’ to Lord Bristol.
He said: “He’s worked so hard to drive the restoration, it’s great they chose to come here.”
