Children with eczema and other skin problems are receiving targeted care following a new appointment at West Suffolk Hospital.
Liz Quarton is the hospital’s first paediatric dermatology clinical nurse specialist, and is providing a nurse-led service for children and young people aged up to 16, initially concentrating on those with eczema.
She will work alongside the paediatric dermatologists and paediatricians to co-ordinate investigations and treatment, as well as offering patients and their families and carers education and support to help them successfully manage the condition.
Liz will also care for follow up patients, in turn reducing waiting times and freeing up consultant clinics for new referrals.
She said: “My priority will be working closely with the children and their parents or carers to develop a personalised treatment plan which will meet their needs and preferences. I’ll also be helping to educate people so that they can avoid potential triggers such as allergens and infection, recognise when their condition is about to flare up and when they should get help urgently.”
