SPRING might be some way off, but a group of volunteers have made sure it will be a bright one in Mildenhall.

More than 40kgs of daffodils and 4,000 crocuses will be springing into life come next year after a bulb planting spectacular.

Residents and volunteers took part in the Big Bulb Plant 2011 initiative on Saturday, doing their best to spruce up College Heath Road and Girton Close.

Michelle Woodley, who organised the planting for Forest Heath District Council, said the day was a chance for people to do something for their community.

“We’re one of the first 50 councils in the country to do this and it gives people pride in their local area and the environment.

Local schools have also been involved in the project.
