CUCKOO Clement is dead.
Apart from being the first tagged for the British Trust for Ornithology’s migration tracking project, he is now the first to get an obituary.
The BTO’s website obituary honours his part in revealing where cuckoos go in winter and how they get there. He was tagged last May at the trust’s reserve in Thetford and was named after BTO director Andy Clements.
As we reported last week, no signal had come from his tag since February 25 but now BTO scientists have checked its temperature reading and found it had dropped from the 36C to 22C, indicating Clement is an ex-cuckoo.
But the other four are all heading back from the Congo and are now in Ivory Coast.
