CHILDREN donned caps and gowns a few years early after gaining top marks in an out of school activity scheme.

Pupils at Barrow Primary School took part in the graduation-style ceremony after winning awards for completing activities and joining clubs at school and in their community as part of the Suffolk Children’s University.

The scheme requires them to take part in ventures over a number of hours in categories including active, nature, culture, service and academic.

Ten pupils scooped gold for completing 35 hours.

Other pupils won bronze and silver for respectively tallying up 15 and 25 hours.

Gold winners were awarded certificates and goody bags with calculators, rulers and gold badges.

They were Charlotte Hall, Freya Taylor, Annie Hill, Kian Utley, Jessica Young, Toby Chittock, Tatum Neill, Samuel Baker, Chloe McQueen and Theo Williams. They will now try for the platinum award.

Headteacher Alison Earl said: “It’s about encouraging them to try a range of new activities and developing their aspirations.”
