Redundancies reduced

THE number of potential redundancies at West Suffolk College has been reduced.

The college, in Bury St Edmunds, had originally expected to cut 49 posts but this has been reduced to 20 compulsory redundancies – four of which are lecturers.

Nine posts were saved from the original proposal and a further 17 staff have taken voluntary redundancy.

The move follows a three month consultation period with staff and unions.

College principal Dr Ann Williams said: “While the college regrets having to make any redundancies at all, we are very pleased that a significant number of jobs have been saved.”
