Margaret is Scouting for new blood

Have your say

MARGARET Chilestone has been at the helm of Mildenhall Beaver Scout colony for 24 years.

But now the retired primary school teacher is moving on – and she needs someone to step into her experienced shoes.

“Scouting is the ultimate way to help children develop emotionally, socially, spiritually, practically – it gives them everything,” she said.

“Working with the children is the best thing about it, without a doubt. Now we need someone to take it on.”

Margaret was the first to take charge of the group and has led the weekly meetings ever since.

She feels that a younger person may be ideal as a replacement.

“We need someone with some new ideas.

“They’d be working with a fabulous team who have been involved for years and a fantastic bunch of Scouts,” she said.

She now steps into a district role, overseeing all the Beaver groups in the Bury St Edmunds area.

A former teacher at Great Heath Primary School, she says group trips and the annual sleepover made up her highlights.
