The theme of celebrating difference echoed through the corridors of a village school following an activity fuelled visit by colourful literary character Elmer the Patchwork Elephant.

Elmer, who stars in a series of stories penned by David McKee, descended on Rattlesden Primary, in School Road, as part of an open morning for youngsters starting in September and a celebration assembly.

Pupils enjoyed a series of art and craft activities such as making Elmers and factual work about elephants.

Headteacher Bridget Burke said: “The children were so excited and really enjoyed it.

“In the stories Elmer is patchwork and everybody else is grey so it was a chance to reflect on how we’re all different and to celebrate that.”
