ONE of the country’s top education bosses paid a visit to local schools last week.

David Bell, permanent secretary for the Department for Education (DfE), spent last Friday visiting Mildenhall College of Technology (MCT), Breckland Middle School in Brandon and Newmarket College.

Mr Bell’s visit came at a controversial time for MCT, as headteacher Susan Byles is requesting more funding for the dilapidated school.

Matthew Hancock, MP for West Suffolk, showed Mr Bell around and said he would support Ms Byles’ appeal.

“MCT achieves some impressive results, but constantly has to battle against the terrible state of its buildings, which were built 42 years ago to last for 15 years,” he said.
