ST LOUIS Middle School in Bury St Edmunds was rubber stamped for closure at a meeting of Suffolk County Council’s cabinet today.
The meeting was held at St Edmundsbury Borough Council headquarters at West Suffolk House - the first time a cabinet meeting has been held outside of Ipswich.
The closure will mean that St Edmund’s Primary will take pupils up to the age of 11 and St Benedicts from aged 11 onwards.
The move is part of the county council’s plans to move schools in Suffolk from a three-tier to a two-tier system.
Campaigners against the closure argued that an ‘all through’ school could have been formed which would have saved St Louis.
