I take my hat off to Kate Oakley.

Kate, from Ixworth Thorpe, wants to shed some pounds so that she can undergo fertility treatment.

But telling the readers of the Bury Free Press wasn’t enough motivation for Kate - she has told the whole of the UK via Lorraine Kelly’s prime time TV and she has also told her friends on social network site Facebook. So there’s no backing out of this one!

I did something similar a couple of years back and the nagging feeling at the back of my mind when I approached the fridge really drove me on to do better.

For Kate, the added motivation is that of a new life, a child. We wish her well.

In case you hadn’t heard, there are local and national elections taking place this year. Check out Twitter and the pages of the Bury Free Press and you’ll find a lot of people looking for your vote. Whatever your political persuasion, please use your vote in May and make a difference.
