EDITOR’S COMMENT: 2015 dawns with a blank canvas

It happens every year - commentators urging us to clean up our collective act when a new year dawns as if the past one has been such a miserable failure.

Newspapers are sometimes as culpable as everyone else so I thought I should kick off 2015 with a more upbeat vibe.

Good news came at the year end with another term guaranteed for the Bury BID. Mark Cordell and his team have been tireless fighters for the town and retailers, traders and shoppers have all benefited.

Elsewhere, Melanie Lesser’s stewardship of the Bury In Bloom campaign was examplary and saw the town really blossom through the warmer months.

The town’s Festival and Christmas Fayre were hugely popular once more and enabled hundreds to view West Suffolk in a very positive light.

The major landmark for me was the anniversary of the Great War, locally and globally. When I look back on 2014, few sights will rival the Tower of London’s carpet of poppies.
