An attempt to smuggle drugs into Highpoint Prison, in Stradishall, near Haverhill has been foiled by prison staff and police officers.
Police officers from Haverhill were called to Highpoint on Sunday (January 3) afternoon as a result of intelligence being received from staff at the prison that a visitor was going to try to take drugs into the building.
A man was searched and what is thought to be class A drugs were found wrapped inside condoms that had been hidden in the soles of his trainers. A prison dog was also used in a bid to detect the drugs.
A man was the from the London area was arrested on suspicion of committing drug related offences and was bailed to return to Bury St Edmunds police station on March 30 to enable further enquiries to be conducted and for the drags to be analysed to establish exactly what they are.
