Driver who died after car crashed into flats in Bury is named as Martin Watkins
A 75-year-old driver who died after a car crashed into a block of flats in Bury St Edmunds has been named as Martin Watkins.
Mr Watkins, of Norton, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident after a Toyota Previa careered through a garden wall and crashed into the building, in Out Risbygate on the corner of Spring Lane, on Monday morning.
An elderly female passenger was taken to West Suffolk Hospital by land ambulance but her injuries were not believed to be serious.
Police are looking into the possibility that Mr Watkins may have suffered a medical episode which led to the collision.
Emergency services were called to the incident at about 10.25am and police closed the road for several hours.
Fire crews from Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth and Elmswell attended and the East of England Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew and two ambulance officers.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance also attended.
There was no significant damage to the building.
