When Doris Holgate was asked what her favourite thing was, she said clowns because they made her laugh.

So when she celebrated her 102nd birthday on Monday, the staff at Cedar Lodge, Culford, surprised her by dressing up as clowns, complete with red noses and colourful wigs.

Manager Caroline Flewitt, proprietor Michael Spendley and assistant Sarah Nunn themed the birthday party around clowns and Dolly had three birthday cakes, numerous flowers and the time of her life.

The Mayor Patrick Chung and his wife Anna had tea with Dolly and joined in the celebration, bringing a huge bouquet of flowers.

Mr Chung praised the care and attention residents received,

Mrs Flewitt said it was a pleasure and an honour to be given the chance to look after Dolly ‘a truly inspiring lady in every sense of the word’.
