Distraction thefts in Mundford




Business owners are being warned by police to be vigilant following three incidents of mobile phone thefts by men using distraction techniques.

Police are investigating three incidents that happened on July 15 in the Mundford and Swaffham area.

Two males were believed to have entered three separate business premises within the local area placing a map on the table whilst asking for directions. One of the males has started a conversation to distract the victim before removing the map and taking the victims phone as well.

The incidents happened in:

Swaffham Road, Mundford between 4.30pm and 5pm

Market Place, Swaffham at approximately 3pm

London Street, Swaffham between 4.15pm and 4.45pm

Similar incidents have been reported claiming that two males have entered the staff only areas of the business premise in a suspicious manner.

Officers are urging local businesses to be alert and are reminded of the below advice in order to prevent becoming the victim of distraction theft:

Be alert of surroundings and think about when you use your phone and who is around you.

Keep your mobile phone hidden from view such as in an inside pocket or inside a closed bag.

Make sure staff only areas are secured and valuables are securely put away.
