Depressive barricaded his Barton Mills home while hehanged himself
A man suffering depression barricaded himself in his home at Barton Mills before taking his own life, an inquest has heard.
Police found Michael Plumstead, 50, had used a chain and padlocks on the front door of his Bell Lane home and stakes to stop other doors and windows being opened.
A neighbour raised the alarm after becoming concerned he had not seen him for 10 days. Mr Plumstead was found hanging.
Deputy Suffolk Coroner Dr Daniel Sharpstone said reports said Mr Plumstead had drunk heavily and believed neighbours were banging on his walls telling him to kill himself. He also thought people were stealing from him.
Mr Plumstead worked in medical research at Cambridge before starting a computer repair business which he had to give up. He had faced a costly divorce six months after marrying a woman he met on the internet. Dr Sharpstone recorded a conclusion Mr Plumstead had taken his own life.
