Debate on the future of community centre

Have your say

A MEETING has been held to discuss the future of Beck Row Community Centre.

The community centre is currently run by Beck Row Community Association, which holds the lease to the building.

The association is looking for another group to take over the day-to-day running of the hall.

During a meeting held at the community centre on Thursday three proposals were made.

Firstly, that the parish council takes over the running of the centre, which would include taking bookings, fund-raising and maintenance.

A second proposal was made by Angie Hamilton, headteacher of Beck Row Primary School, that the school takes over the running of the community centre.

Mrs Hamilton said this arrangement would be beneficial to both the school and the community.

The third proposal was for the community association to continue running the centre.

A vote was taken to assess public opinion, 10 people voted for the parish council to take over the running, nine people for the school and 11 for the community association.

A decision on how to proceed will now be made by Beck Row Community Association.
