A man who was found on fire in Thetford had been visited several times by police in the days before he died.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found on fire shortly after midnight on Wednesday last week outside flats in Walmington Court.

He died later that day.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the force had visited the man last Monday (April 15) at 11.10pm to reports that he was acting in an agitated manner.

He was subsequently taken to West Suffolk Hospital for a mental health assessment.

Health professionals deemed him fit for release shortly after 5am the next day and was taken home.

A further visit was made to the flats at 12.17pm on April 16 to reports of a suspected burglary.

The man was spoken to by an officer and no complaints were made.
