Dame Judi Dench supports Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds emergency reopening appeal
National treasure Dame Judi Dench is supporting an emergency fund-raising appeal to help Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds reopen and survive the coronavirus pandemic.
The theatre, in Westgate Street, aims to raise £50,000 from 'The Show Will Go On!' campaign and has already raised more than £19,000 since it launched last week.
Dame Judi, life patron of the theatre, has added her name to the list of stage and screen stars backing the appeal.
She said: "Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is an absolute gem and it must be preserved for generations to come – a magical place with its historic auditorium and rich heritage - please stand with us and support this emergency appeal if you can."
Dame Judi was a patron of the theatre's Restoration Appeal between 2005 and 2007.
She performed in the venue's 2005 restoration gala with Sir Ian McKellen and Timothy West - she and Sir Ian performed the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet together.
