Cycle tour returns to East

THE route for the Tour of Britain cycle race’s return to Suffolk and Norfolk was launched on Wednesday.

Leading cyclists, race organisers and council representatives met on the county borders near Diss to unveil the route the 2011 race will follow f,or its seventh of eight stages.

The stage will start on Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, on Saturday September 17 and head south to Lavenham and Cockfield before swinging east and north towards Ipswich, looping round to cross the county border at Diss after 60 miles.

It then does 60 more miles travelling north through Norfolk to finish on the Sandringham Estate.

The race starts in Peebles on the Scottish borders on Sunday, September 11, and finishes in London on Sunday, September 18.

Last year the race drew 120,000 spectators in Suffolk and 130,000 in Norfolk and it is televised in 100 countries. For a route map visit
