Is it a bird, is it a plane? No it’s seven friends cycling to Paris for Cancer Research UK.
The six, all brought up in Bury St Edmunds, are cycling from London to Paris at the end of May in memory of Jenny Taylor, mother of team member Andy Taylor, and call themselves Jenny’s Superheroes.
They plan to do the last section of the 260 mile ride into Paris in superhero costumes.
Andy said: “2012 wasn’t a good year for us, we lost my mum and we lost a close friend to cancer, Chloe Gidney who ran the Tolgate Pub and died in her 30s.”
Since then another family member has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment.
The cycle ride was suggested by another team member at Jenny’s funeral.
Andy admits: “Some of us are novices. I wouldn’t say cycling was my strong sport but we have got some strong cyclists.”
Fortunately, team member Ben Jeffrey is head of sports at Hardwick Middle School, so they have some training expertise. The school is also organising a sponsored run to boost the team’s funds.
The team has already chosen its superhero outfits: Andy is Superman, Ben is Wonder Woman, Justin Sanderson is Ironman, Jamie Howe is Spiderman, Vincent Coogan is Captain America and Dan Barber and Stuart Fisher are Batman and Robin,
