A plumbers’ merchant burgled only two months after opening new premises has thanked its customers and community for the support they have received.

FJB Plumbing and Home Improvements had £15,000 worth of stock, plus their CCTV equipment, stolen two months to the day from their opening in Hampstead Avenue on Mildenhall Industrial Estate.

Managing director Frans Bester arrived at work on Saturday morning to find it had been ransacked.

“They didn’t touch the plastic stock,“ he said. “They took mainly our copper items and all that side. I think it may have benb for scrap metal.

“They took everything the everyday plumber needs and uses.”

Mr Bester only opened the business in January 2015 and than moved to larger premises on the estate two months ago.

He was concerned at the impact not being able to supply customers might have but instead, they rallied round.

“It’s amazing because of all the support I’m getting from them,” he said. “They’ve supported us right through and helped us out – they’ve offered us their labour to help us out.

“We never knew we had had such an impact in the community. It’s hard for me to thank all the people in the community who have helped me – I want to thank them all.”

Suppliers have also been helpful, making arrangements to restock them.

Many customers expressed their disgust at the raiders and support for the company on its Facebook page.

Stuart Head posted: “You boys are working hard to give a service and [they] do this to you – disgraceful. People on this page could you offer help or support, please.”

Martin Ruffell wrote “I hope you guys are up and running again soon! Thieves are proper scumbags, hope the karma bus runs ‘em over.”

Raymond Dorans said:S”ad to see this happening especially your new shop. Hope they catch the thieving b**@s”

Suffolk police are checking neighbouring business’ CCTV and appeal for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to call Mildenhall Police on 101 quoting crime number 33138/16.
