A Mildenhall woman who received £3,840 overpayment of benefits has been ordered to carry out unpaid community work after admitting benefit fraud.

Maureen Jones, 30, of Peterhouse Close told officials there had been no change in her circumstances although her estranged husband had returned to live with her Ipswich Crown Court was told last Thursday.

She had pleaded guilty to failing to notify a change in her circumstances relating to claims for housing and council tax benefits and making a false representation in respect of Job Seekers Allowance.

The offences were carried out between July 2012 and January 2013.

Joanne Eley on her behalf said Jones’ husband had become estranged from her just five weeks after their wedding. He had returned for a time but had since moved out.

She was ordered to do 40 hours unpaid community work and pay £100 costs.
