A RUN-DOWN station in need of major repair has suffered a further setback after vandals struck for the second time in just over a month.

Gary Hall, chairman of the Friends of Brandon Station (Fobs), was running a security check last Thursday when he found a door in the old station master’s house had been kicked in.

He said: “The frame has been destroyed and will have to be replaced. We’ve done our best to put everything back together but we just don’t have much money to keep fixing these things.”

Although nothing appears to have been taken from inside, the break-in is the second time the derelict station has been targeted in the last month after vandals attacked newly planted bulbs and a sign on November 22.

Shortly after that incident, Fobs announced it would need more than £200,000 to restore the station and put out an appeal for help.

Mr Hall said: “We don’t know who did this and we don’t understand why. We are trying to fix the building and this isn’t helping.”

Both incidents have been reported to the British Transport Police, but a request to National Express for CCTV footage from its cameras is yet to be answered.
