Two admit arson charge

TWO men have admitted setting fire to furniture outside a house in Stowmarket.

Brett Taylor, 22, of Dickens Road, Ipswich, and Michael McBride, 22 of Church Lane, Little Stonham, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday.

They had set light to two armchairs and a settee in the driveway of a house in Hillside between October 1 and 4 last year. Two other offences of arson in the town were ordered to lie on file by Judge David Goodin who directed that Taylor should be found not guilty on a separate charge of criminal damage.

Judge Goodin requested a pre-sentence report and pyschiatrict report on McBride, who was granted bail .

Appearing for McBride, Ian James said his client suffered from attention deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity. He had a previous conviction for arson in 2008.

Richard Kelly, appearing for Taylor, said his client had spent five months in custody since his arrest. He had no previous arson related charges.

A pre-sentence report was also ordered on Taylor who was remanded in custody.
