A TEENAGER from a West Suffolk village has been banned from using social networking websites after posting a Facebook message urging people to riot.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced at West Suffolk Youth Court, in Bury St Edmunds, today after he admitted sending by public communication network an offensive, indecent or menacing message.

As well as being prohibited from using any social networking site for the next 12 months, he was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work and obey a three month curfew as part of a 12 month youth rehabilitation order.

The mobile phone with which he sent the message will be handed over and destroyed.

He was told to pay £85 in costs.
