SIX men have been given custodial sentences for their part in a mass town centre brawl.

On Tuesday, the six appeared at Ipswich Crown Court to be sentenced for their part in the fight on Market Hill, Brandon, on April 30 last year.

The court was shown CCTV images of the fight in which two other men were injured.

Judge John Holt said the fact that the incident took place in a public area with other members of the public nearby meant that only immediate custodial sentences were appropriate.

Joe Roper, 20, of Brandon Fields, Brandon, Aaron Markiewicz, 20, of Barr Drive, Lakenheath, and Warren Meadows, 20, of Wilton Road, Thetford, were each sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders institution.

Christopher Smith, 21, of Dewarren Drive, Brandon, Jordan Craigen, 21, of Mill Hill, Brandon and Robert O’Keefe, 22, of Hythe Road, Methwold, were each sentenced to 12 months in prison.

The men had all pleaded guilty to a charge of affray at an earlier hearing.
